Swimming pool games for two people

A variation on the game is to move the object from one side of the pool to the other using only splashes without physically touching the object. Walking in water is a challenging cardio activity that puts stress on the thighs and abdominal muscles. Some land-based sports translate easily to water, where resistance in the water increases the impact of the activity. Water-based sports often require additional accessories.

For example, to play water basketball, invest in an inflating rubber ball, beach ball or standard basketball and either a side-mounted pool basketball hoop or a floating round ring. Players take turns tossing the ball to the center of the pool, swimming for it, and then trying to toss it into the floating or stationary basket while the other player attempts to block or steal the ball. Volleyball is also easily translated to the water.

Either secure a special pool net to the sides of the pool, or use a long foam pool noodle as a floating net. A beach ball is a less challenging option than a volleyball because it moves more slowly through the air. Each player bats the ball over the net or noodle to the other player, with the goal of not letting the ball hit the water when it is on their side of the net. Just get a friend and a few pieces of equipment and you can enjoy a great workout in the pool.

Some of these games can be adapted for more than two people. Be careful to supervise young children at all times and those who are not good swimmers. Both of you can stand against the side of the pool in the shallow end. Hug your beach ball and balance on top. Count to three and then attempt to race to the other end of the pool and back without falling off your ball.

You and your partner are piranhas fighting against each other. Using a hand to push the ball is not allowed, and any player to do so must return to the starting point. The first team to finish will be declared the winner. What you need is a water hose, and six or more players. One person will get into the pool while holding the water hose under the water.

The game ends when everyone is in the pool. Only one ball will be allowed for each player to retrieve. The team to get the highest score wins. Get into the pool, find a partner, and stand opposite each other. One of you must do some funny and challenging actions. It can be swimming side to side, bubbling like a fish, or dipping underwater.

Your partner must try to copy your actions; just like looking in the mirror! Make turns on who will be the one to copy the action. Get into small groups and form a circle.

Prepare to duck into the water. Start humming your favourite tunes. Other members of the group will try to guess the tune you are humming. If they failed to guess the tune within three turns, tell them the answer and then swap.

You can play this game as long as you like! To play: One of the kids will be the tagger. He will try to tag the rest of the kids in the pool.

Once tagged, they will be a starfish-they have to stand still until someone will set them free by tapping them in the shoulder.

Play this game for a few minutes then choose someone to be the new tagger! Have everyone lined up on the other side of the pool. Choose someone to be the Mr.

Shark, and ask him to stand with his back from the other players. Shark have to shout back the time. If Mr. Group the kids into six or eight per team. Have them form a line. In your signal, both teams will start passing the ball, going over and under all the players. Once the ball has dropped, the team will start all over again.

The first team to finish wins the game. Have the kids form in a circle. Once the rhyme ends, everyone should duck underwater. Once the ball gets caught, the person who let you get it then becomes the new fishy in the middle. Lie on the water, with your tummies facing each other. Both players should try to grab the pool noodle in between them. In a go signal, both should start kicking very hard to get the other person to go backwards and make them put their feet down.

Form a line on the sides of the pool. Each player should lie on their back and balance the float or any pool toy on their forehead. They should swim up to the other side, while preventing the float from falling in water.

The player who gets the furthest distance with their float will be the winner. Scatter all the numbered floats or toys in the water. Line up the players along the side and start calling out the numbers with a short gap.

The first player goes and gets the toy with the first number, the second player gets the one with the second number, and so on. The challenge is to make everyone bring back the right number. Swim to get a letter and put in the pile of letters on the side of the pool.

While staying in line, each person walks the perimeter of the pool while still in the water. After a couple of laps, each person starts jogging. Then eventually working your way up to a run. By now there should be a current that is helping you along. Stop and try to do the same thing in the other direction. We have probably all done a belly flop at some point whether intentional or not!

Participants go one at a time leaping into the swimming pool and landing directly on their stomachs — if done correctly, it will probably sting a bit. The winner is declared by either judges or crowd appreciation. This can be played as a Cannonball contest as well — jumping into the pool curled up in a ball.

This game requires four people minimum and is played in teams of two. One team member will sit on the shoulders of their teammate and the opposing team will do the same. You can splash, tickle, push and pull until they are in the water. Try with more teams as a royal rumble setting. All other participants are in the pool and lined up behind the leader. When the watcher says go, the leader will do something — it can be a swimming stroke or jumping jacks or anything else they can think of but it must be in the pool.

The watcher keeps a close eye on everyone and whoever is not mimicking the leader is called out of the pool. Two teams compete head to head to put on a frozen t-shirt. They may use any means necessary to defrost the shirt whether that be the pool, hose or on some hot concrete. Whoever puts on the shirt first wins. Just make sure you remember put the shirts in the freezer the night before! This is a great one for kids. The rules are simple: whoever holds an underwater handstand the longest wins.

It helps to have a judge nearby in case it comes down to a photo finish. A classic swimming pool game! This player must have their eyes closed the entire time. The other participants scatter themselves around the pool but must remain in the water. If caught, that player returns to dry land.

The last player in the pool wins. For this fun game, you will need 10 ping pong balls, two buckets and a permanent marker.
