Norton 360 auto protect exclusions

Both my Norton product and my Windows installation are up to date in fact, I just reinstalled Norton. I have a number of very large disks on my system that I use to manage archived images pictures. I want Norton to leave these disks alone.

The photo archives are all in subdirectories under a commonly named top level directory on each disk. It doesn't seem to work. When I try to access the disks using a Windows command script that looks for specific files in each archive subdirectory, it takes a very long time to produce results, UNLESS I completely disable Auto-protect using the notification area icon pop-up menu.

As soon as I disable auto-protect at the system level, the script runs fine. If I re-enable auto-protect at the system level, the scripts slows down again. Why does the exclusion list not seem to work? I would think that if I really had successfully excluded the photo archive disks from the "auto protect" activity, I would not see a big difference in the performance of my CMD scripts it impacts ALL of the scripts I'm using to manage the archive. Hello DrTom Are you manually adding in the path or clicking on the browse setting and having the program add the path for you?

If Norton is stopping the installation of certain software and you receive an alert then you can click on that alert and add it to the exclusions.

You can also turn off auto protect via the main GUI. You do not have to only use the system tray icon right click. The other is an intel hd graphics I tried switching which card Norton uses, but didn't have any effect. Not sure why that would cause the auto-protect to be greyed anyways.

The issue being discussed in this thread is a long time issue with some users.. From memory, it seems to turn off some settings and can be triggered by certain programs. I haven't done a search yet. There should be some old threads about this. I'll see if I can find some other threads about this. Pats this doesn't affect everyone and it was happening before you started trying to help some users..

Before I started this thread I actually searched through old posts regarding this and there has never been a complete fix that could be done by the end user I've seen. The only thing that ever fixed it was Norton pulled This did in deed fix my problem when I was on that version and everything was fine until n updated to I haven't come across a fix for the issue, but it does come up or a variation of it comes up.

Have a look here. Some do go back a while. I suggest this as there has been some situations in the past with Remediation and if in need of something is in need of remediation - it can turn off auto-protect.

Yank, as for the link you provided the same thing happened with As for the task scheduler her is what I see. When I ran the first task it says unspecified error but no other information.

Also, I want to be clear this is not a complete solution as no one would ever want to do this as it would put your PC at risk. I then rebooted and magically auto-protect is not greyed out. Why Norton is not detecting the problem within the C directory and fixing it on reboot I have no idea why. Back to top. Papasquee Teilnehmer 4. Registriert: Danksagungen 0. Labels: Auto-Protect. Uninstall Norton via Windows Control Panel 2. Reboot 3. Run Norton Removal Tool 4. Reboot 5. Remove any left over files and folders 6. Install Norton Security 7. Run Live Update several times till nothing is left 8.

Hello We recommend that users turn off auto-renewal. Success always occurs in private and failure in full view. If you want to disable scanning the network drive, you can exclude that drive alone from scanning. You need to exclude it from Scan and Auto-Protect. Could you tell me where to find Real Time Protection Exclusions?

I do not see it under Antivirus Settings. I have version 5. I'm hoping this will work! Back to top. Reg: Dec Kudos 0. If you have not resolved the issue, disable network drive scanning in your antivirus program.

To turn off your antivirus program, see the antivirus program documentation or online help for steps and information about how to do this. If the issue is still not resolved, temporarily turn off your antivirus program.
